We Trust Our Products -- And You
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
As far as I understand it, economics is fairly simple. In its essence, people collect something of the freely given largesse of the natural world. Combining their ideas and their actions, they attempt to turn this largesse into something useful for themselves and their neighbors, friends and others in the world.
If all goes well, the products they create are then offered to the world at a certain price that is set in relation to other available products.
Money works well in this function unless one group of people is able to monopolize and manipulate the supply and value of money. This is what is happening now everywhere in the world. Without manipulation, people freely use the available money to decide which products add the most value to their lives. The products that add the most value to the most people result in successful businesses and people. Those that fail to create this value go out of business.
Here's an example of how this works. A man has the idea to harvest trees from his forest and turn them into cutting boards. The trees are a freely given gift from nature, but he must manage the forest so the trees remain strong and healthy in perpetuity. Any other strategy would be foolish on his part, as then he would soon run out of healthy trees from which to make his cutting boards. Using his skills, he goes to his workshop and turns out many beautiful cutting boards. He then offers them for sale for a certain amount of money.
It turns out that this same amount of money would also be enough to buy a bushel of apples or his neighbor's well-made shirts. People then decide which has more value for them, the cutting board, the apples or the shirt. If our man's idea and skills are "good," he will end up with a successful, sustainable, cutting-board business. If nobody values his cutting boards, he will soon have to find another way to make a living. This system is scalable and works beautifully when not interfered with by those with often nefarious interests.
This model is the essence of Dr. Cowan's Garden. Our idea is to seek out or produce the best-quality food products in a variety of categories, then offer them for sale to those who value these products. We sometimes vary the prices, such as in our current sale, to help expand options for people.
Ours is a business born of a commitment to be as informative and transparent about our products as possible. We trust our products, and we trust our customers to make the best decisions in their own interest. The fact that we are here for another Thanksgiving sale is proof that we are succeeding. Our customers tell us that our products enrich their lives. They prove this simply by being customers. For this support, the entire DCG team and I are truly grateful.
